Ep15 – Meatballs, Chopsticks, and the Hoffsicle

What the heck is a hoffsicle? Remember David Hasselhoff in Baywatch? Apparently he’s the new fad of the summer season from Del Monte in popsicle form. I can’t make this stuff up livecasters, it’s true. Sam also talks about what kind of chopsticks to buy for your home. If you’re going to go with the disposable wooden ones, pay the extra one or two dollars (for the entire pack, not per chopstick pair) so that they break off evenly and save you and your guests from a splinter in the mouth.

We grilled some meatballs in Episode 3 and they are making a reappearance today in the form of a sub. We smothered them in a jar of pasta sauce and melty provolone cheese and served it in a toasted hot dog bun. That’s it! How freaking easy is that? Those pre-packaged meatballs are just kind of those things you need to keep around because they can do so many things. Watch the episode, follow along, make this sub, and thank Sam later.

Thanks for tuning in, it was a great week. Remember our liveshows are on at this site. We’ll turn the front page into the live show about 5-10 minutes before we start so make sure you refresh the page to see it.

Oh and one more thing. We have a very special livecast at Donovan’s Prime Seafood in downtown San Diego on Thursday 5P PST. Please come out and see us because it’s free and it’ll be a blast!

(video coming soon!)

Ep14 – Dirty Martini, Salty Talk, and 5-Minute Stir Fry

In today’s episode we start by making a delicious bleu-cheese stuffed olive dirty martini and then it’s all about you, the fans. We answer a question about sea salt,  show a fan’s rendition of Sam in a Mii (that’s the custom characters you build on Nintendo’s Wii gaming console), and talk to and hook up a couple Livecasters on Skype. How cool is technology these days? Sam then talks about a recent survey conducted highlighting America’s top 10 favorite foods–you’ll be surprised at the results–and ends the show by cooking a beautiful, mouth-watering stir-fry with cup noodles. Yes, the ones you get at the store for 30 cents or something like that. It is a legitimate tasting stir fry that will satisfy all your cravings with minimal cook time (recipe here for 5-minute stir fry noodles). It was delicious. Get creative with red peppers, onions, green onions (scallions), sauces, etc. Make sure that wok is hot!

Remember, we’ll be live at Donovan’s Prime Seafood Thursday, June 30 at 5P. There are no tickets to buy, no entrance fee to pay, just come and see us do our livecast thing on location. We’ll see you soon!

This is how Haley sleeps during the show.

5-Minute Stir Fry. Hot wok, saute some veggies.

Combine with cup noodles, add to hot wok, get it crispy, and add good teriyaki sauce.

Enjoy with some friends and family.

Ep13 – Sam and Lynn Try Pig’s Feet, Emmy No.13 & 14, and Pesto Grilled Cheese

Sup Livecasters! Today’s show was epic.

We start by making a lip-smacking lemonade and bourbon cocktail (a Livecast crew fave). Then Sam shows off a couple more Emmy Awards he won over the weekend and shares about a little wardrobe debacle while trying to find something nice for the event. Max rolls out a new segment on us called “Who Eats This Sh*t?” and Sam and I got to try a whacked up thing called Pigs’ Feet. Hey look, I don’t care if you eat this for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I don’t care if your mom eats this or if it’s your family’s favorite picnic food. It is simply nasty. Don’t believe me? Check out our yaktastic reactions on the show. If I watch it again I might just vomit.

Here’s a challenge: if you find something strange at a major supermarket chain (so far we’re ruling out major ethnic food store chains) that you want us to try, hit us up on Facebook (www.facebook.com/samthecookingguy) or Twitter (@thecookingguy). We’ll eat anything.

But wait, we’re not going to leave you hanging with us gagging on stinky pigs’ slime, er, feet. Sam finishes the show with a cripsy and gooey pesto grilled cheese (recipe here) that is surely going to be one of the best things you’ll ever eat.

Ep12 – Cap’n Crunch Seared Tuna, Sake Martini, and You on Skype

On tonight’s livecast we have Chef Ron from Donovan’s Restaurant come over to prepare Sam’s famous Cap’n Crunch Seared Tuna, a dish they’re featuring on their menu right now. How cool is that? Also, Sam rants about a weird supermarket experience and talks to a couple fans on Skype and teaches one how to properly hold a knife and use it. Here’s the thing guys. If you have a question you want answered by Sam, just call in on a show. It’s that simple! Plus, you’ll probably get a free t-shirt or book out of it.

Thanks for another great week at The Sam Livecast. Join us next Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 6PM PST for another round. We’ll see you then.

Ep11 – Chicken Charlie and the Deep-fried American Dream

Folks, today we have Chicken Charlie in the house. You may know him by his tasty deep-fried creations at your local fair. We’re talking Oreos, Girl Scout Cookies, brownies, Krispy Kreme sandwiches, Twinkies, frog legs, the Zucchini-Weeni (TM, I’m sure), S’Mores, Klondike Bars, and the list goes on. But wait! We got to try a couple new creations for this year: deep-fried Kool-Aid and ribs (Charlie calls them FryBQ Ribs).

By the way, we made Kool-Aid and vodka cocktails in his honor.

Charlie talks to Sam about how his American dreams were realized as a successful entrepreneur and YOU the Livecasters suggest new fried offerings for the future. We debuted our first Skype call and will be doing some more in the future. Interested in calling in and participating? Stay tuned here on this site as well as Sam’s Facebook page.

Wow that was a fun show. Tune in tomorrow night (Thursday 6/16) at 6PM PST. It’ll be Sam and you with a Donovan’s chef making Sam’s own creation: Cap’n Crunch Seared Tuna.

Ep10 – The Shrimp Cast, Shrimp Tacos, Supermarket Rant, and Father’s Day Advice

You the viewers have spoken! You wanted to know more about shrimp so we did it. Also in episode 10, Sam talks about what fathers want (or rather don’t want) for Father’s Day and rants about a recent grocery store experience. He makes a great Caesar cocktail (a Canadian Bloody Mary that uses Clamato as the base) with bacon and some Spanish olives. Then there’s all you wanted to know about shrimp: which type to buy, how to buy, and why. Finally, Sam finishes off the livecast by showing you how to cook a fast and easy shrimp taco dish that will blow your guests away (trust me, I ate like five of them after the show).

Join us on Wednesday at 6P PST for Chicken Charlie. He’ll be showing us his latest deep-fried creations from the fair.

Ep9 – Pimm’s Cup, Polenta Talk (finally), and Sweet Sticky Ribs

Do you hear that? Yeah, neither do I. That’s the sound of the smoke detector NOT going off during the show’s chaotic grill sequence tonight. If you missed the live show don’t worry, we got all the shenanigans right here for you. Sam starts the show off with a off-the-charts Pimm’s Cup with ginger ale, cucumber, and a bit of fresh orange juice (please don’t forget that cucumber). Then he talks a bit about polenta and the cool stuff you can do with it. Did you know you could grill that sucker with a bit of basil oil drizzled on top? Finally Sam creates his “almost guaranteed to win you an award” sweet, sticky ribs. You’ll be surprised at how simple and tasty it is. Just try to grill it more than two feet from your living room okay? If you want to know what happens when you don’t, just watch tonight’s smokey show.

Ep8 – The MIHO Gastrotruck and Weiner Talk

Okay, so things aren’t looking great for one particular Congressmen in the news and Sam rants about that a bit but things are going great for the folks at a local food truck: MIHO Gastrotruck! On the verge of their one-year anniversary, Kevin and Juan come to the studio with the gastrotruck itself to talk food, how they got started, and why they’re so passionate about what they do. This is one episode you definitely don’t want to miss! Oh yeah, they also brought along some help to cook up the food live and we got to enjoy the entire delicious menu after the show.

Congratulations to the winner of the Vincent Jackson & Sam the Cooking Guy autographed book! We’ll continue to give away some free stuff so be sure to tune in and participate on Facebook and Twitter (#thesamlivecast).

One final thing. If you haven’t already, go subscribe to these podcasts on iTunes to have them delivered fresh to your media device everyday. We have two ways to enjoy: audio only and video.

Tonight’s Livecast – The MIHO Gastrotruck

On the show tonight we’ve got the exceptionally creative and talented owners of the MIHO Gastrotruck, probably the best food truck that San Diego has to offer. Not only do we have the owners coming, but we’re gonna have the whole damn truck parked right outside Sam’s house cookin’ up a storm. Don’t forget to send in your questions/comments (especially recorded videos, we love those!) and tune in at 6 PM (pst) to get an inside look at the Food Truck Industry.

Via the MIHO Facebook page: “THE SAM LIVECAST, tonight at 6pm. We’re taking the truck up to his house, chatting it up, and sharing about MIHO’s first year, our Anniversary Week “Celebration of Collaborations”, and cook up some hand made street food. Grab a drink, get online, and just chill.”

Ep7 – Old Fashioned, Fan Questions, An Essential Pesto Pizza, and Spices

Sup Livecasters, in Episode 7 Sam starts out with a sweet Old Fashioned cocktail made by muddling sugar and bitters, mixing in whiskey, and topping it off with a thick, fragrant lemon peel and some Maraschino cherries. Refreshing. Then Sam answers some fan questions, gives out a bunch of stuff and finishes the livecast by making a quick and easy pesto pizza that you’ll want to bust out at your next hang out. Sam also talks about shopping smart, buying spices in bulk and the importance of Kosher salt. Make sure to tune in on Wednesday. We have the guys from MIHO Gastrotruck and will be giving away a book signed by the ‘genius’ Sam the Cooking Guy and San Diego Chargers’ #83 Vincent Jackson.
